Kate Herman Kate is "the editrix". As office manager and associate editor for one of Alex's consulting businesses (the Science Editors Company), Kate helps us write well and sometimes gets dragged into work in the studio. For a long time, Kate pretended not to know anything about the work in the studio, but she revealed herself by arriving one day with a custom-made plant press. She has also one-bettered the artists in the group by having the discipline and talent to compose good photos during a field trip when her boss could do little more than successfully photograph his feet.
